Subject: Public Meeting- Daunis Right of Way (Barrington)

There is significant threat to the Daunis (Barrington) public right of way that will be on the agenda at the Barrington Town Council meeting on Monday night, March 3. Everyone interested in preserving shoreline access should attend. Below is a communication from Bob Moeller setting out a brief summary of the matter. Dave Byrne has been following this closely and will be at the Town Council meeting, as will I.

Here is Bob's notice:

RISAA's Public Access Committee has been following developments related to a Channel 6 News Report last week that attempted to link "teen drinking in Barrington" to the use of the Daunis Right of Way that RISAA has adopted and is monitoring.

The neighbor to the side of that ROW is constantly trying to get this ROW closed off to the public so they can have the whole shoreline to themselves. There are only two parking spaces for anglers and the public to use as it is. It is our understanding that the neighbor intends to try to get the hours of parking/access limited, so kids can't go down to the shoreline at night and drink. Of course we all know this will not solve the "teen drinking problem" but would probably solve the "neighbor's problem" from their perspective.

The meeting of the Barrington Town Council to address the issue is scheduled for Monday, March 3, 7:00 P.M. at the Barrington Town Hall, County Rd., Barrington.
If you have an interest in preserving public access, especially if you are a shore angler, please try to attend the meeting and speak up to support public access and related parking. According to our State's Coastal Resource Management Council, public access at designated Rights of Way is supposed to be available 24/7 to the general public. Towns have the final say with regard to parking. That is why we need your help.

Please be courteous and supportive in your comments. It's always best to call on the day of the scheduled meeting to make sure the time and date has not changed. Barrington Town Hall phone is 401-247-1900. Ask for the Town Clerks office to verify the meeting and agenda item. Thanks as always for your support.

Bob Moeller, Chairman
RISAA Public Access Committee
