I have recently found that tying a second nymph to the eye of the first fly works quite well and it is easier to tie on the dropper than fumbling with a barbless hook bend. But I absolutely agree that for wet fly rigs they function best when tied off of 3" tag ends of blood knots. They "swim" better and I think the fish inhale them more easily. You can easily swim 3-4 flies on one leader. For tiny tippets (5x-6x), the blood knot droppers tend to twist less than when using tag ends of surgeon knots.
