I like this discussion and I think it is important.
In the ocean I use droppers all the time and have for decades and I
catch just as many fish on the dropper as the tail fly. I know that tying
on the bend of the hook in the salt is a futile effort as the fish do not
get the dropper in their mouth. I do not think this I know it because I
have watched them try for hours and hours and never has one
succeeded in getting a dropper that was tied to the bend of the hook
into its mouth. In fresh it is the norm but I think it is a norm that is
not thought out but one of conformity to what everybody does. I know
it works on average on about one out of ten fish. I have been told that
but I think it works on perhaps one out of a hundred fish.I know soft
mono is counter productive and that blood knots are not the best
solution that has been used in the past. I am curious to find a new
solution. Perhaps dropper loops or some other old timey trick that has
been long forgotten. I will find a better way of doing this then the
way it is being done now. It is driving me nuts thinking of all those
fish that are trying to meet me that I am ignoring.
