Just got back from fishing some of the rivers in the Moosehead region of Maine last week. The Weather was hot, the sky bright, but we still had some excellent fishing on the East Outlet (headwaters of the Kennebec), Moose, Roach and West Branch of the Penobscot. These rivers vary in water flow from 3,200cfs on the East Outlet and West Branch last week to 125 cfs on the Roach. You just have to adapt your approach to the conditions . High water conditions can be a challenge but the fish simply move to different lies. We got native Brookies up to 20", Landlocked Salmon up to 20" and some cookie cutter Lake Trout -16-17". Favorite flies were Grey Ghost, Orange Grey Ghost Marabou, Red Grey Ghost Marabou, Footer Special, Lake Ternay Special and Montreal Whore. Nymphs and dry flies included GR hare's ear, Hendrickson NYmph, Black Stone flies, Hendrickson Dry, Henryville Specials, Haystacks.

I've fished some of the these waters for 30+ years. Happy to share my opinions on places to fish and places to stay if anyone is heading to God's Country.
