Interesting, I never knew about this name until quite recently, but that method of fishing is one that has been around a long time.

I like to do it with longer rods for the control they give me over my flies when casting and for keeping line off the water if I need to for for mending long lenghts of line.
Short rods are good for short casts but they start to fall apart on longer presentations, at least for me.
I do not like to be untangling flies too often.
