Not a new thing but interesting none the less.

I took a piece of light hard wire about eight inches long like a fine guitar string and put it on the end of my tippet where the point fly would ordinarily go and put three droppers above it. I put a split shot on it in the middle and cast it out. It did not hit bottom so I put more shot on it.

The river was flooded and raging and the bottom was big rock. Snag heaven or hell which ever way you describe it, and the thing hit bottom and I felt every snag and did it again and again and it never hung up and I could feel everything easily.

I was casting upstream and used a tight line. I bent the wire in the middle and put the shot below the bend. The feel of the bottom was right there - and you can add more and more shot and it did not hang up at all. This spot is a fly eating chute with big rocks and heavy current. This way of fishing deep works really easily and well.

When it did stop on a rock I gave it a little tug and it came free every time.

I like this!

I was using a 3 wt.
