This post is not to you Mr. Fisherman,
Funny thing about casting lessons. You always need more of them because you never quite get it just right. And of course if you actually put a fly on the end... You have to start over again. And if it is a bigger fly, again... and so on..
If you do accidentally cast a balanced rod a few time guess what happens?
You can cast high line speed easily from that moment on if you want to.
How can that be?
Because your body learns what it feels like to cast right. Your head - cannot - cast nor can it ride a bike. Casting is not a concept. It is a body thing. Honest to God it is a body thing. Really!
It does not work the other way around however. Underlining a rod is like pushing a rope. You will never get it right because; the wind will be too much, the flies will be too big, the droppers are fouling, the fish are too far and on and on and on and on and on and on. And on and -or - you can chuck the whole lessons thing and balance your rod and cast easily and gracefully for the rest of your life without any more lessons. Today!
You (I mean you,) can cast with spey rods, with light rods, with heavy rods, with over-lined rods (you cannot cast an over-lined rod it is impossible to get the line in the air, I am having some fun) with underlined rods, with short rods, with the tip of a rod, with your arm as a rod ie, no rod, with your left hand, with your right hand, with both hands, with someone else's hand, with bamboo rods, with broomsticks or pool cues and you can fly cast with spinning rods or casting rods and, if you want to...
You can cast right now perfectly! Or... You can be so frightened of this kind of actual natural innate body ability that you freeze at the mere idea of it... You can choose to take - casting lessons - forever. They nefer end until you get fed up. casting lessons forever and forever and forever...
Fly casting groundhog day has you in its grip. Until you get it just right it willnever let you go.
That is the actual choice. Freedom to cast or... A certificate that is as real as a kindergarten diploma. I think that is actually important if you want to teach kindergarten someday. So... If you want to be a casting instructor by all means take the lessons and get the certificate... If you want to cast today so you can fish...TODAY. Then balance the rod with the line. Finis!
How many lightbulbs does it take to change a fly casting instructor?
