I agree.
Having said that;
Mike you ought to up the line weight on those rods of yours and start giving distance casting demos in the wind... I am busting lessons and the high line speed only mindset behind them on purpose and for a good reason. Things are stale and staid and atrophied and dead and are being controlled by not acknowledging that there are other methods or actually that there are any other methods of casting.. We all help people cast because we want to holp them not because we want dictate to them what is the only right way and some things that are never said - need to be said - so that some new light can come to the casting scene and that this one method of casting that is always held up as the only right method is not hte only method nor is it the best method or the correct method and in fact it is a stumbling block tomany people and it is based on dysfunction in terms of th3e physical effort needed to achieve a result and is hurting fly fishing not helping it at all. It has its place and that is in tournament casting.
There are actually fly casting, "police," at the shows checking on the method used by the demonstrators of casting. For what reason? To protect the public against bad casting instruction?
I was told (hearsay) that it was to insure that the certification board sells its video's and gets its funds for certifying instructors and casting schools.
It is a kind of imprimatur in effect. A type of royal casting priesthood with inquisitors ferriting out the heritics. This is America not Papal Europe. I do know it ruffled some experienced peoples feathers. It should have. Prhaps we need a fly casting reformation? :-)
