History lesson.
The recent chatter on this board below peaked my interest a little in the history of modern saltwater flyfishing (and the sprt of saltwater fly casting as it seems). I say modern, because it seems that there is a definate hicup in the timeline when people flyfishing the salt used the traditional methods at hand and then all of a sudden it seemed to derail and move toward something else entirely. A new breed was born. Was this real or imagined?
When did the change start to occur? Did it start with the emmergence of fiberglass rods? Graphite Rods? How were people fishing before all this hoopla. Somebody must have been doing it. After all, flyfishing is older than all other styles of fishing other than the handline, which seems like a logical ancestor to the sport.
I know a lot of you guys out there lived through this, so here's my bait. I want to get to the bottom of things. Guy's like me could only benefit in the long run.
I know you're out there. I can see your fins coming up my slick. :)
