I can't help but remember writers like AJ McClain, Joe Brooks, Haig Brown, Ray Bergman and several others. Those guys did their homework and had their facts pretty straight and so did their editors.
You know why?
They felt an obligation to their readers to write about methods that were well researched and tried their best to put them into words that could be understood easily and to not cause the readers to waste valuable time on the water trying to do what is in fact - the impossible. Instead, those writers, the great ones, chose to describe ways of fishing intelligently with solid useful well researched and fact based information. They would not settle for less at any price.
That is the fly fishing writer tradition. We need to demand a return to it.
