A fly line heavy enough to pull your fly through the air is the first thing to look at. If that is okay and there are leader turning over problems a nice short, stiff, fat leader may be needed. For my leaders for 4/0 hooks with flies around 12" I like a braided butt around 2 feet and around 4 feet of 40 lb hard mono for the rest.
Also giving the fly time to change direction while in the air makes a big difference. Starrt the forward cast only after the line is straight and the fly is facing forward. With a perfectly straight fly line to come either forward or back it is amazing the amount of weight you can actually throw with.
