I'm chiming in where my opinion was not requested, I know, but I just can't help it.

My vote would be that you get the 550gr.

I have a 12' for a 5wt. that I fish that head on. Shorter rods seem to like more grains. I have an old 14', 9wt. that I fish the same line on. 5wt.? 9wt.? Who cares, put the reel with the 550 on it and go fishing.

Spey day or not, we should go get that rig wet when it's in-hand. You're up on the North Shore somewhere right?
