John I'll try to cover some of these until sean answers,#1 the Rio skagit should have a 3 or 4 foot section of green between the yellow head and yellow running line, this is the optimum loading area, (if it's a Rio windcutter the head is yellow and the running line all green just start with a little green out then work more out as you progress.) start with just some of the green at the tip as you progress you'll have all of the green out and casting at the green yellow running line coonection.#2 generally the leader is as long as the rod.#3 Being right handed and casting off of your right shoulder the anchor point should be again about the length of the rod and using the face of a clock the direction you want to cast or target is 12:00 o'clock the anchor point should be roughly 1 -2 o'clock. So as you sweep the line in front of you when you reach the 1 -2 position the only part of the line still anchored to the water should be about a foot of the leader with the fly.#4 yes this is the d-loop combined with the anchor point where the rod loads in the spey backcast.#5 You will feel the rod load, the tighter you make the d-loop the more load you will feel,it all depends on the amount of force you actually put to the backswing to the d-loop and how abrupt is the stop.#6 Remember slow is better than fast when it comes to spey casting, be sure to complete all aspects of each cast let the rod load and it will do all the work for you, no different than a single hander, remember for the most part the upper hand is basicly going for a ride it should act as a guide to control the rod in the straight back and straight forward line as the lower hand kicks out for the backcast then tucks back in towards your chest for the forward cast. #7 What I have found to be amazing is how easy it is to flick over 100 ft of line out with no wasted effort or time.I hope this helps John.
