Is anyone still interested in this? I fished the island once. I'll be heading back down in July. If anyone has more info I would appreciate it. I plan on doing more fishing this next time.
Here is my report from the last time
I fished the island when I was there last year. I took a guided trip with Ron Ebanks. We saw quite a few tailing fish in Frank Sound. Tough to get a bite, the guide managed to hook one in 6 hours. This was the only spot we hit. This location is all turtle grass and the water is the right depth to easily spot fish feeding. I found tarpon in a canal that runs about 1/2 mile in from the north sound. It was on the west side of the island. There are a few locations like that so check them out. I managed to get one on spinning tackle which measured about 4' long, awesome fish. There is another small flat area that I found bones and smaller stuff on that I liked and was closer to town (where we stayed). It is on the south side behind a really cool little pub called Durty Nellies. You have to drive the roads cause I can't give specific directions but there is a small monument/parking area right next to a small group of really nice townhomes (at least they were before the hurricane). A couple guys told me they liked that spot because you can wade out to the reef, one guy fished roosterfish off the reef. There is some good info on the net if you surf. Hope this helps. I understand the hurricane changed things a bit.
