George, Go for it. I am itching to get into bonefishing and have read much about it but have only gone on two trips and fished maybe eight times. My guess is if fish are around in numbers you could catch them on standard saltwater flies. Ive read Joe Brooks early book on saltwater flyfishing and he regularly caught good sized bonefish in the Keys on blondes and palmered flies that were the forerunners of the seducers, none were weighted. As most fish for bone fish with a guide the guide puts the fly on and its weighted and casts are made to sighted fish. Id like to have a month in bonefish waters and try wading on my own and fish and cast whre I think fish might be, maybe I would use a weighted fly sometimes and maybe not on other times. I read an article by Jack Gartside on bonefishing and he prides himself on breaking all the rules. No guide, dont always look fot tailing fish, cast to where you think fish might be, it would be fun to try.Personally I would like to try wading rather than being poled in a boat. The bonefish i saw in the keys seemed very boat wary and though they were present they seemed to stay a good distance from the boat and rarely gave us a good shot at them. Mike
