You really want to know? I can tell you some stories but you have to promise to wait until I am dead to re-tell them.
Maybe not, it depends. In the old days some of these fellows were thrown off boats and out of clubs etc.
People dodn't and wouldn't cater to them.
Remember the cartoon of the guy looking down the barrel of a revolver with his thumb on the trigger? That is the picture to keep in mind when reading the heroics of fishing as reported by the writer heros.
The guide's job is to keep him (writer hero) from pulling the trigger and to keep the myth up in exchange for publicity for the guide's business.
The guide always gets short changed but usually keeps his word on the secrecy as he thinks that someday........ Someday never comes!
They take and take never give. They steal and pass off what they steal as their own. The guides are always getting ripped off and never realize it.
They should make them pay double. They would pay as they can't write about anything without the guide!
