The beauty of tying flies is that you can try and do anything you want to do to tweak them. If you think a weedguard is important then try one.

That being said I hate weedguards on flies. I have tried them all and ended cutting any type I have tried off the fly. Tied in mono, wallpapper brush bristles, wire guards, you name it. I find they dramatically decrease hook-ups and the flies still end up grabbing weed or the bottom any way. I am kind of obsesive when it comes to hooking fish so any thing that hinders it is bad voodoo in my book.
