One of the reasons I started tying flies this year was because I was so sick of seeing the same patterns in every flyshop I visited.
The device has yet to be invented that can measure how much fun it is catching stripers on flies that no one else is using, or has even seen or heard of.
Out on the Block in early July, I had tied up a bunch of those really sparse sand eels — the ones with 30 BT hairs and a couple strands of flash and thin-looking #6 salmon hook — with the intent of giving some extras away. At least 50% of the people I handed them out to said to me, "Are you REALLY catching them on these?"
I'm also guessing many of them will never try to find out for themselves. ;-)
