I would like to think that is true and perhaps in some situations it is but I find that when I use a uni-knot loop I catch in difficult situations and when it's cinched I don't. I do always tie surface flies with a cinched uni-knot. Perhaps a confidence thing but a loop gives some lateral freedom. Don't you think that in a decent current the fly would never hang down 90 degrees with a loop?
