the baits that have shown themselves to meare small. 1-3 inches. and there are gazillions of them, all along the shore. the smaller bass love to roll around in them, almost beaching themselves while sucking in the numerous meals.
but i have not had much success imitating them. these days i don't fish for the near shore stripers, i mostly fish in the gut and have come up empty there when trying to imiate these small baits. long vibrant razzle dazzles have drawn strikes. seemingly bait like rays flies have not.
i do not know what the bass think that they are eating, perhaps a squid, perhaps some baits i do not know exist, but when attempting to match the hatch in the gut, the fish have not responded.
asthetics have have tricked the fish lately.
