The only thing there are more of than different flies are presentations. And particular flies make particular presentations sing. Sometimes it doesn't matter if it's an 11-inch fly or a 1 1/2" fly but the angle it comes to the fish at, the depth it's at, the angle it rises at or its orientation to the structure. The "right" fly is necessary but in far fewer situations than it isn't necessary.
