One thing that would be helpful is.

IF you did not want to fish in one you could be a monitor and randomly fish with a pair each day and measure their fish. (A draw tournament with people being pared with a new partner each day not fishing with friends.)
You would not be a participat but would insure that a level playing field is manitained (no cheating or exaggerated measurments of fish) and if you are a writer you could take pictures and write about your experiences from an insiders perspective.
