Subject: Re: Rheas Emu Hackle

Great minds think alike. I found the same site a few weeks ago & ordered a few different colors. Can't wait till they arive. If you could John, provide some amplfying comments on which packets (magnum / super magnum / etc.) that you bought and how they fit in with your plans / expectations etc. We also have a mega-super-duper fly shop out here in CA (Marriots) that's within striking distance of me. They carry emu & rhea feathers. Went up there this weekend and bought a few. Haven't experimented with them yet as work has kept me too busy to pursue important things like fly tying. First observation though is: Like any other bird, it depends where that feather comes from on the bird, how it was dyed, how it was handled that will determine its utility. Same as a chicken, same as a grouse, just much bigger. Don't think I could fit an emu in my turkey fryer, but I'm looking for a big stainless steel trash can and a sale on cooking oil at COSTCO Cheers!
