Just ordered one this afternoon. All rigged up and ready to go when it arrives next week. Quiet man will be loud that day.
I use a BIC now and like it very much but have been so badly outfished by a few friends with the Hobies that I had to suck it up.
They just move around so much more effortlessly. More water equals more shots at fish. Also when trolling you can just hold the rod instead of putting it between the legs or in a rod holder. When you hook up you can just spin the rudder and face the fish. Much easier for the fight than securing the paddle...... taking the rod out of the holder.....gaining control of the line.... and then realizing you are facing the wrong direction.
You can also follow the fish in the Hobie which you can't do in a traditional yak.
By the way, I chose the Outback over the Adventure. The Adventure was a more sleek and probably better traveling yak but it is much narrower and less comfortable (IMHO) than the Outback. I essentially need to stick my thumb up my bum in order to adjust the rudder. Might not be a problem for those who do not have big thighs like I do.
