I have the same kayak and prefer to use the last footwell as my rodholder and just let the rod rest back on my foot, thigh, and under my paddle.

I like it like this because 1. its the simplest, no extra dodads to complicate things and cause trouble, and 2. when you get a strike you have much greater sensitivity because you are connected to the rod, this allows you to feel weed as well as strikes. As the rod is point directly back which makes hooksetting more solid than an elevated rod on a holder.


You also have a lot of freedom for trolling as you can move the rod from port to starboard, wide or center. Having the rod in front is nice to, don't have to "do the twist" to get at it.
