I fish from the yak allot and I don't have much success trolling flies. My best trolling luck has been with the LL Special paired up with something small (Rays fly etc).

I like to find some current and cast a little to my side and drift with it. Kind of like fishing from the bank but you cover lots more water.

Another thing is even if I'm fly fishing, I usually bring a spinner or conventional and troll a tube and worm if I'm moving from place to place. Its a great fish finder and a yak is always at a great speed for the tube. Locate fish with tube, go back an fly fish... its just one of many ways to do it.

In your case seeing active fish around you and no bites, I would just drift and cast through the area with droppers and some small shrimp and worm flies.

BTW I come home fishless often enough. The yak is great but it has its drawbacks you cant just fire up the motor and bag it to a new spot or jump in the car...
