thanks folks. these things really are amazing. i can't get enough of the yak these days!

i have since landed a few fish trolling flies, black snake flies, white snake flies and rays fly have all produced, on floating lines. sinking tips have not yet produced fish.

if i stick the fly rod into the cockpit with the reel snugging up just beyond my righ foot and the hull of the boat, i can get a pretty good setup. i take the line and loop it around a piece of cord on the right side of the kayak for an easy hook setting device, and if a fish wants to run, line can be peeled off while the rod and reel stay put while i simultaneously paddle. there is a good deal of dangerous current where i fish, and staying out of it is a primary concern of mine.

but my time in the kayak is not spend concentrating on catching fish. the views, both in the water and out, are just so amazing i find that merely paddling about, looking at things here and there, checking out subtleties of the ocean accessible through the kayak is just so much fun.
