I have solved the fly rod trolling problem in a unique way. I bought a rod holder from Cabelas that is open in style and fits a fly rod nicely. I rigged up a u-shaped metallic device I got from Home Depot and secured the device to one of the spare holes in the kayak. Then screwed the rod holder to the metal piece. The whole rig sits nicely on the left side of the kayak under my left armpit. It does not interfere with paddling and is readily accessible. My last time out it worked like a charm as I hooked a significant bluefish. Line tangles are a thing of the past and worrying about a fish yanking the rod out of my cockpit is also not a concern. If you want I will post a picture of the rig. I'm thoroughly satisfied with it and recommend it to all.
