It is not odd actually.
The fact of balance has been clouded in ignorance and self interest for so long that it is a wonder that anybody who has been promoting their way of casting for so many years can even remember what casting is actually all about.

Sounds like the media is beginning the big, "Cast Speak," cover up of the wackiness that has been wrecking fly casting for fishermen for a very long time.

When a nine weight - IS - a twelve weight it doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize the dysfunction in labeling line weights for rods.

I think the industry and the writers who promote the industry should be apologizing for harm done to ordinary fishermen not pontificating.

There should be a ban on writing about expert fly casting for about three years.
At least a few soft tomato's or a pie in the face of a few, "Experts," is in order.

Just an opinion.
