Similar situation here at Kernwood Bridge....
Fish popping tight to the bridge pilings. Very difficult presentaion situation for me. 30' of very slow water then good current where the majority of the fish were. Had to cast over the 30' cause the water got too deep to wade. Didn't know whether to hold the rod very high to keep the line off the water (Then I coluldn't mend it seemed.) or to try to do a few down stream mends. Also, with the bridge tight to my left shoulder and the current running away from me from left to right, when the swing ended, I'd have anywhere from 30 to 45 feet of line out at a 90 degree angle to the bridge. Tried bringing the line in to the head section and roll casting to swing the line back around parallel to the bridge with some success or stripping in enogh line that I could pick it up and flip out 30 feet of line parallel to the bridge inteh slow water then pick up and cast. How else might I have gotten the line back around? As the tide slacked, the speed of the current disparity got more extreme. The fish were working only about the first 10 feet of the water past the pilings. Did manage two fish on a very small very sparse brown over white bucktail. Both in that 10' zone. Wasn't set up with a dropper rig, so I was changing out flies quite a bit trying to find the "match".
Every once in a while a bass would venture in to the shallow water and work right in front of me. Interesting to watch how slowly they'd cruise up in to the feeding zone, take something, roll, drop out of the zone and then repeat the cycle as they cruised up and down the pilings.
This morning I remembered that last year an Orange Fireworm and a small Orange GP worked pretty consistently. Maybe tonight a Featherwing Ray's Fly/Fireworm/GP set up. See what happens....
