I have a difficult time casting or using a full sinking line unless I am fishing from a boat. You (I)have to strip this line all the way back to lift it from the water to start casting again. I is hard to lift and throw it back out with a single (or 3-5) for me like I can do with the a floating (at least running line) line. I do hate to use a stripping basket... for me, sinking line falls out and into the water to snag on everything. I have had some success with a Multi-tip line. I have a couple and have never had a problem casting them. I like the 3 sinking options that are there and ready made. With current most of the floating line stays up so you can mend with asome success.
Another thing I have used is a short piece of lead core line between the fly line and leader. I don't care for the way it (I) casts. It does get it down.
And there is split shot... not enough time to get into that right now. :)
My experience anyway
