I used a 350 grain sink tip in the Narrow River today. The tide in the channel was running fast and the fish were near the bottom. The most effective technique was to cast quartering up current, letting the line and fly sink to the bottom with as close to a natural drift as possible, keeping just enough tension on the line, with short, sharp pulls if necessary, to be able to feel the hit.
The retrieve, near the end of the swing, was a series of long, slow pulls and pauses to keep the fly down.
I've tried adding lengths of LC 13 and braid to the end of a floating line but have trouble casting that rig. On a long cast my LC 13 collapses, in the air, under the floating line.
