300 grain sinking line ?

Subject: 300 grain sinking line ?

I am looking to replace my "depth charge" sinking line. Not sure what the weight is, bought it 5 years ago. Fishing 8# wight rods and like to be able to get down deep but something also not too hard to cast. Does this sound right? 300 grain??
