It looks like I have been given the task to master the use of sinking lines this year. It has been awhile since I have used one. My experience with them involves still water, fresh water streamers targeting smallmouth and large mouth bass from a boat. My favorite setup was a floating fly such as a muddler twitched in along structure. I kind of liked the setup. I could fish top water with some gurgles and pops for a few seconds while the line started to sink. Then once I started a retrieve with the sunken line my fly would swim down and would suspend and dart side to side at every pause. It was kind of like fishing a floating swimming plug.
I guess that that is my starting point for this year.
I have had marginal success using sinking lines for stripers from shore in certain spots. I can usually grab bottom using a floating line with a shot and mending at most of my shore spots.
Casting as far as possible and stripping my brains out is out of the question. Spinning gear is just too efficient and too fun for those type of situations to ignore. I have also sliced up my hands pretty bad from doing it in the past.
Any body got an tips on techique they want to share?
