Nick ;go to another flyfishing web site and I guarantee you will get pages of answers ,along with statements like "sinking lines are the only way to catch stripers" or when flyfishing in the surf you need to use sinking lines because they get under the waves ,"so they are not tossed around like a floater on top". As far as myself personally, casting full sinking lines on the 2 hander as far as possible with big headed bullethead flies or oversize poppers has produced great results, trout fishing in ponds or lakes with sinkers is the only other experience I have with full sinkers.Like you ,I normally approach fishing the depths with splitshot or lead core trolling line on the floater.
