They're here- and in full force!!
Fished the beachfront on the Merrimack this evening and saw lots of tern action in the middle of the river but no activity along the beach. Moved into one of the estuaries and saw nothing- then I walked by a tidal pool and it was alive with bait- I had not seen significant bait in any of these pools through Tuesday. Saw some "nervous" water and cast toward it.
Screwed up the cast- my L&L Special and Deadly Denise tangle and dropped hard on the water and it swirled.
The next clean cast brought a nice 20" fish on the L&L.
A few casts later- my first triple of the year- on a small orange/brown GP, Deadly Denise and L&L.
The basin I was in started to teem with thousands of fish working!!! Largest I caught was 24" (real- measured) Unfortunately I had to leave- early day tomorrow- but watched a gorgeous sunset and fishing breaking out of range by the hundreds. Love that popping and slurping sound.
Ken- First fly on a Deadly Denise!!!!! Same as the picture I posted except I added a Peacock herl topping.
