My experience, over the past few years, is that the worms often appear earlier than expected ("the first full moon in June" is what many say is the "expected" first emergence), then vanish for a time and then reappear.
That (or at leat the first part) happened this year. I don't know about the rest of the state, but in Ninigret a week or so ago there were plenty of worms and there was plenty of catching. But I have not seen any worms in Ninigret this week, although I have been catching fish there. Wednesday evening I had five, all on a gurgler.
There are a lot of weeds and jelly fish in Ninigret right now, and I doubt that the weed situation will improve any this year. Are the jelly fish a food source for bass or anything the bass feed on?
