Subject: Away with my Waders |

Ordered new waders today for the first time in years. Pliobond and aquaseal can only do so much. A separation between two pieces of rubber in the boot is letting in water and giving me the clammy-foot. There is a good deal going on at Cabelas.
Returned to where I have been fishing this week to some wild weather. Rain and a ENE at a steady 20 knots which is basically coming from behind me. It is a good wind direction for this spot. Very strong current at the top of outgoing, close to 3 knots. I went down there thinking worm swarm and rigged a floating shrimp and two Gps one orange and one red. The water was very high, fast and choppy. Worked one long section for nothing. Went to another spot that can have worms but found nothing. Walked back with rain driving hard in my face to see how the rip was working. Decided worms and shrimp were hot happening and went to the Half-bitten-Culprit-worm-fly that worked two days ago. Gradually casted further and further out until I got a hit. A keeper on the long 8wt in really fast current is a battle to get the fish through the throat of the current and on beach. Some time went by and a replay in the same spot, close to the rest point after the swing. Cookie-cutter keepers. At one point I had to get a knot out of the line. While my fly was hanging about 75 feet away I could feel a hit. Lucky little bastard. Took another hit in the same spot but couldn't set it. Retrieved the fly back and took another hit which I think was a foul due to the very large scale on the hook when I got it back.
Left with very swamped left foot. I love taking fish in fast current.
