A high school kid asked me if I was a catch and re-leaser. Then he explained to me that catch and release was "Torturing fish for pleasure." Animal abuse. He learned it from the Doonesbury comic strip. He doesn't want to fish anymore. I was wondering when that was going to happen. Catch and release is inhumane.
That accusation will more than likely stand up in court as inhumane. Along with slot limits and large fish restrictions and all the rest of the modern fishery management theories.
Let the little ones go -will be acceptable but, no kill, won't be. Unless of course there is a good reason for catching fish other than the reason of catching them over and over again for pleasure - can be separated from the label of Torturing them over and over again for personal pleasure. Banning fishing as the solution to catch and release is the natural outcome of Catch and Release as it is presented by the fishing clerics. The one true religion is perhaps philosophically bankrupt in a court of law. It is going to be defined as animal abuse. That is going to happen and in the near future. Doonesbury has spoken, and, the kids are upset.
Time to get a new set of clerics. Ones with a bit of practical intelligence. This is looking like the Charge of the Light Brigade. We actually need people who can think!
