merch- Just noticed your question about the herring in the Kicky. I grew up about 100yds south of the dam and used to when it was legal snag the herring at the base of the dam and sell them to fishermen. The herring always went to the bottom of the dam if there was a good flow from the floodgates. You can tell when they are there because a seagull will stand on the dam facing the river looking for a meal. The only problem I have with the fish ladder is when the young try and get out. That resevoir gets low after a week without rain so the only beneficiaries of the herring getting in there are going to be the large mouth bass and turtles. I have had good luck fishing that end of the river in years passed but haven't tried it since the railroad bed area was closed to vehicular access. I used to canoe down to the first set of points and fish the incoming tide. I may have to try it again now that the ladder is operational to see if some larger bass show up. Generally get large schoolies in there though.
