They eat the little ones when they hatch. There are posts about it on the site. A bunch of Fishries scientists on Long Island did a study a while back and found all the bass that they sampled were full of tiny horseshoe crabs. From this they concluded that the Striped Bass's main prey species was horseshoe crabs.

You got to love them scientists!
