If you are comfortable and confident using your gear what difference does it make which type you use as long as it gets the job done.
10 foot noodles are great for a lot of things. 9 foot staffs not so much.
What really cracks me up are the heavy salt water rods. Sacrifice rod action for the sake of perceived fish landing ability. I can't do nearly the same things with a salt water fly rod that I can do with the little fresh water ones. Last time I tried to use the backbone of a heavy rod I snapped it in half. I have yet to do that with a little rod.
I have better drifts, better hookups, better landing percentages with the soft lightweight rods. The line dances through the air, not slung shot forward. A wiggle of the rod oozes line out into a drift, not having to pull the line out of the tip with the weight of the water. I also don't need to muscle a heavy line out there to finicky fish, no matter their size. To me it is not about landing the fish with the lighter gear but the chance to get a take "When the fish aren't biting".
3 wt rods handle the wind the same way any other fly rod will handle the wind. If the line is heavy enough to pull the fly it's going to go forward. If it isn't then it won't.
