I like fishing with a fly rod for the joy it bring me.
I also find joy in conventional tackle.
I like it all for personal reasons.
A line that make a rod come to life is the right line.
Underlining a rod is the norm now a days but it will not last for much longer. The truth has a way of wrecking a perfectly good fantasy. This has happened before in the culture of fly casting.
High line speed always passes. Stiff rods need heavy lines to make them cast.
Force = mass x velocity.
The mass part is the part that is important.
Increase the mass and the velocity can diminish to get the same effect in force.
It is simple stuff.
It takes more effort to increase the velocity to compensate for insufficient mass.
In other word.
Less bang for your buck or more work (muscle energy) to expend to get the same result..
But with this effect.
It takes a lot of energy to do the same amount of work. IT wears you down and tires you. Multiple backcasts and perfect timing etc. and none of this is necessary and it is not graceful and fly casting is supposed to be graceful.
Remember Force equals mass times velocity. The rod will cast gracefully if it has the proper mass and velocity.
You pick what you want to do. Break dance or Waltz. Both are correct.
I prefer more mass and less velocity as it takes less work to accomplish the goal effortlessly. The goal of casting easily and beautifully is easy. One backcast with proper balance and the deed is done perfectly. Amen...
