I’ll get to the attachment in a minute.

I had an early start to my evening. I headed down to the south county area at around 5:00pm tonight. Being this early I thought I’d take advantage of the moon low and the late afternoon daylight and check out some different areas.

This brought me to a rocky shoreline in Narragansett. I know the shoreline well in this area by boat, but never spent any real time fishing it from the shore side due to the lack of clearly marked access. The whole area is plagued with gated communities which, in addition to their iron gates, have posted every variety of “no parking” and “no trespassing” sign ever printed up.

I ignored the first sign on the front gates and drove down the road. The road itself was pretty torn up but the properties flanking the street were nothing short of stunning. I’d been down here before, but usually under the cover of darkness so I had never seen these beautiful estates before. As I reached the end of the road there was another side street with two rock pillars at the entrance. The rocks had “no trespassing” spray painted vertically on them. I thought this was in pretty poor taste considering the type of area I was in. I turned down the road.

The brush on either side of the street opened up and there was a big house on my right and a clear shot to the water on my left. I drove a little further to find a suitable place to park my car. It was full daylight so I thought it wise to find a place to hide my truck a little bit. Luckily there was a house set back off to my right which was clearly run down and the yard was overgrown. Definitely no one home. I pulled up the driveway and as I got closer to the house I could see that the place was in the process of being gutted. The windows and doors were torn out and the petition walls inside had been removed. This was too easy.

I drove around back to find that another car was already parked there. I got a little nervous at first, but when I got out I saw a note on the dash which read “Gone Fishing, be out by 4. Please don’t tow, God Bless”. I was relieved to find out I wasn’t the only one, so I locked up and headed down without my gear toward the water.

This shoreline is exquisite. A striper fisherman’s dream. Boulder fields and rocky points all over the place. I must have walked a mile north inspecting every nook and cranny it had to offer. By now it was about 6:30 and I figured I should go back to get my gear and come back out for dusk.

As I walked up the driveway I noticed a new vehicle in the yard and I also spotted a dog running around the corner into the adjacent field. As I got closer I could see that someone had placed a piece of paper under my windshield wiper. That piece of paper is the one that is attached to this post.

As I was unlocking my truck, three dogs came running around the corner. They stopped and looked at me, started barking and wagging their tails. I heard a man’s voice start yelling to them. “Go get him! Go get him!” He sounded angry. I thought, this guy can’t really be telling his dogs to attack me can he? He sure sounds like that’s what he wants them to do. Lucky for me, attacking me was the last thing these dogs wanted to do . They were barking alright, but they were also wagging their tails and then ran over to lick my hands. Real tough guard dogs.

Now, the guy yelling at the dogs walked around the corner along with a younger woman. He was carrying a clipboard full of these notes. Must be his job, Proffessional Day-Ruiner. He saw me and just started yelling, “Who are you?... Who are you?...” Over and over. He sounded really tweaked and was walking very quickly over to me.

I replied, “Nobody”
He said “Who?”
So I said “Nobody” again.
“What makes you think you have the right to park down here, huh?” At this point I could see he was really pissed and definitely seemed like he wanted to pick a fight with me. But I was in far too good of a mood to let that happen tonight. :-)

I told him that I didn’t think I had the right to park down there and I honestly though that no one would notice or care. That answer caught him off guard. I don’t think he heard that one before because he smiled a little, laughed and changed his tone some after that. He told me I was lucky he only gave me a warning and next time I’d get towed. I cut him off mid-tongue lashing, and thanked him for the “warning”. I told him I was just poking around and asked him if he could recommend to me how to access the area without “Breaking the law”. I was being overly friendly and a little bit manipulating but he totally bought it. After a few minutes the three of us just started idly chatting and when I left they waved and said bye to me like we were old friends and they were glad that I had dropped by. ;-)

I’ll find another way in.

My night gets even more interesting after that…
