We have been taught that to trigger a positive response from a fish we have to put something into the fly to elict that response or reaction. What is never talked about is the opposite truth which is to eliminate a negative response. In order to do this we have to eliminate that "something," that elicts a negative response.

We can easily do that by taking something out of the fly until it works. For instance: You make a cast and a fish blows right up on the fly he is gong to eat it and then he stops. The fish had already said yes to the fly until he got close enough to see something that made him hesitate. That something was not you or the boat. That is an excuse, sometimes they will bump into the boat to get your fly. When this happens the next time try to remember that they had said yes to begin with and then they said no to somthing in the fly. Try shortening the fly, taking all or most of the flash out of it, using a fly that is a bit sparser or try ripping out half of the wing.
If the fly is bright chartruese try using a duller chartruese, If it is bright yelow use a more moderate yellow. It is just taking into consideration the opposite and valid truth that sometimes less is best and more is to much. If it isn't there - than they may not change their minds. That is not such a bad thing.
