Subject: Note on Leaders

One of the most important uses of a leader is not invisablilty but the tension it has in the water to swim the fly where you want it to swim. At one time almost everyone who fished knew that leaders were a part of swimming a fly correctly. That awareness has not been talked about much in the modern era. Sometimes a fine leader will cause a large fly to not follow the line as it should because the leader does not have enough bearing surface to cause a large fly to track correctly when being swung in current. There is often a perfect thickness leader that fishes better than another not because of visability or thinness but because of its thickness. Just thought I would mention that as it is still well known in Salmon fishing circles. I am not putting invisability into second place just bringing up thickness as a factor in swimming a fly correctly. There are heavy leaders that are hard to see.
