Hi righty. Seeing a medium white bird and asking what does it mean is asking a lot. It could mean a great deal or nothing at all. You have to ask yourself some questions to be able to observe correctly. What kind of a bird was it exactly? Get a bird book and find out, then read about the bird and find out what it eats and when it comes to New England. That will tell you if the bird is a common sight here. What it feeds on will tell you what bait it might be looking for. Was the bird flying or stalking in the shallows? Was the water it was in along a current flow or in a backwater? Go look along the shoreline where it was and see if you see any bait. Seeing a bird by itself will not help you but using the sighting as a springboard to explore the circumstances surrounding its sighting will tell you something. It's like tracking in the forest, as your skill grows in putting the pieces together you develop observation skills. You can only learn this skill by doing it yourself. The bird did mean something but if you cannot read the book of nature because you don't know the language that is written then it is up to you to find out some of the words. It's really easy to do, next time you see something that captures your attention investigate it and try to find the links that give you insight into what occured. The question "Why", is unanswerable because as you learn more about nature the answer to Why things occur changes. What occured and how to use that information is the way to become a better fisherman. Leave the question why to those who don't like to risk expending the effort it takes to answer the answerable questions. You do that by leaving them in the parking lot and going and hunting out the answers for yourself. There is no quicker way to learn.
