Subject: Re: What do sand eels do June 2002

Hello, My anme is Peter Sheppard, I am a Captain out of Nantucket in the Summers and Key West in the winters. I was reading your information on snd eels and found it very interesting. Sand eels are a major source of food for our sport fish here in the island area. I have always wondered about their migration routes and what trigers them to do so. is it tide periods, hours of day and night light, or is it water temperatures, or all of the above. Here on Nantucket I have noticed very small sand eels in the spring less than an inch long, and in August, when the water temp. rises above 70 we get huge carpets of one to 3 inch lance on the serface which atlantic bonito come to feed on. Do you know of there travel routes and triger factors reguarding there life cysles? Any info would be much appreciated. Thank You very much Capt. Pete --Captpete@rustyfly.com
