I like to cast far. You like to cast far. We all like to cast far. It feels good to be able to cast far. A good caster can cast far with the tip of a junk rod. A good caster can cast far with a fiberglass rod. A good caster can put a fly line on a spinning rod and cast far. A good caster can cast far because he is a good caster. If you are learning how to be a good caster should you buy a junk tip section to learn how to cast far? How about a fiberglass rod to learn how to cast far? How about a spinning rod to learn how to cast far? .....Hello!..... It might just not be the rod at all! It might be the caster. Soft rods can cast far, medium rods can cast far and stiff rods can cast far. You can buy; every next time zone rod and, cast into international waters rod, that comes out in every year's new model and if you are a good caster you are sure going to be able to cast it far. Even if you use just the tip you are going to be able to cast far. Perhaps fish are going to tremble because you can cast far. Perhaps fish will quake with fear when they hear your name. Perhaps people will fall silent when you make your first false cast and time will seem to stand still. And.....perhaps not. Casting good is good and so is fishing good, good. They are not always the same thing----fishing does not serve casting; casting serves fishing. A good fisherman can learn how to fly cast and become a good fly caster.
A good fly caster can learn how to fish and become a good fisherman. The good fisherman does not have to learn how to fly cast to become a good fisherman and the good fly caster does not have to learn how to fly cast to become a good fisherman. The good fisherman will learn how to cast quickly because he knows what he has to do to catch fish. The good caster does not know what he has to do to catch fish except cast. He will learn what he has to do if he wants to become a good fisherman and he will probably listen to the fisherman. And the fisherman will learn how to cast because he knows what he has to do to catch fish.
Just my opinion. I don't mind taking people fishing who don't know how to cast. They can learn later.
