Glad to hear that you are back in action Art. The plovers are still in good shape. You are a tough old bird and I hope you post some more and speak your mind. It is good to disagree.
A lively debate is never a threat to someone who has something to say. Look at Parliament, They debate and it is a no holds barred mix it up brawl and it is not for thin skinned sissies.
What I try to do on these board is keep it a level playing field. You can say anything as long as you are willing to back it up and stand your ground.
People who are not willing to do that get their feathers ruffled and are frightened by being asked to explain what they are talking about.
This site is not a nursery school for sure but so what. It is also not a one way or the highway site.
We all fish every way imaginable but the one thing that is upsetting to many people is that most of us do not believe in the modern cult religion of cast and strip with sinking lines and jig flies as the one true and holy method of fly fishing in the salt.
That is it. So we are left with talking about every other method of fly fishing that is will be and ever has been practiced.
Funny when you think about it.
I guess that fishing traditionally and talking freely about it is so much of a threat that it needs to be ridiculed rather than freely, no holds barred debated.
Being ,"Nice, is not a virtue by the way. The word nice means, "to ignore," in its oldest definition.
We do not ignore things here. We talk about them openly and that is not, "Nice." It ruffles feathers and gets the juices flowing - that is a good thing in my opinion.
Debate is generic in intent never personal. People can fish anyway they want to, I do it all the time. Politics is politics. Politics is human interaction. Lively debate is a good thing.
We talk about everything all the time here and we are said to be the ones who only fish one way and are intolerant.
It is quite funny actually.
I love the phrase Namby Pamby. IT alost says it all.
The part it does not address is the personal attacks on me and my family and my friends that are made to try and shut down the free flow of ideas on this site that are not welcome.
It is an open forum stand your ground site the only one I know of without a screening barrier. If I was controlling input there would be a membership hurdle and I would edit the input. Only, "Nice," posts would be tolerated.
As it is you can post anything you want to and if it isn't a personal attack on someone it will remain on the site for all to read and the debate that comes from it will be open and lively.
IF you get your feathers ruffled it is not anyones fault. Just do a better job in making your case the next time.
Peace, Ken.
By the way Art - this explination of the policy of the debate on this site was not directed at you personally at all.
